Overcoming Pain

Ana Grant

ANA GRANT  -  Clinical Psychologist – BA., MPsych (Clin)., M.A.P.S  -  Medicare Provider No. 2767585Y

Ana Grant (MClin Psych) is a Clinical Psychologist with a Masters Qualification and over 20 years of clinical experience. Ana’s clinical experience includes treating the full-spectrum of disorders from developmental issues such as encopresis, and oppositional defiance disorder, through to adult issues such as trauma, pain and disability and family problems.

Ana is particularly experienced with children and she is able to put even the most anxious child at ease. Ana recognizes that behavioural problems in childhood are often a product of interacting biological, psychological and social and that the key to resolving them is supplying whatever is needed to help that child develop as optimally as they can. This often involves educating the parents about any special needs their child may have.

Another one of Ana’s strength’s is the treatment of trauma, based on her work with victims of civil war in Latin America, when this field was in its infancy in Australia. Ana actually helped establish the Victorian Association for Victims Of Trauma and Torture in 1980. Ana is also bil-ingual (fluent in English and spanish).

Ana is well-versed in all of the major psychological treatment approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, psychodynamic, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing. This eclectic approach enables her to choose from a range of treatments to suit the client’s personality and to achieve the goals of treatment in the most effective way possible.

Clients will find someone who warm and friendly and easy to talk to, but who is also able to “read between the lines” gently and sensitively, and address unspoken attitudes and feelings which may be maintaining the problem. Ana also brings solid diagnostic and assessment skills to her work, which can be helpful when there has been a lack of progress and/or diagnostic uncertainty.

In addition to her clinical work, Ana has presented at professional conferences and workshops both locally and internationally. Ana has been extensively involved in the supervision and training of mental health professionals of all disciplines and she is an APS approved supervisor.
